Every day, hundreds of people begin to lose their sight. At present, there are over 2 million people in the UK living with visual impairment, with figures set to rise. Sight loss can affect anyone at any time in their life, from colleagues to loved ones. It is, therefore, crucial to understand visual impairment and how you can help those living with the condition.

Course Objectives

  • Understanding visual impairment, exploring common eye conditions and their effects
  • To be able to identify barriers for colleagues, service users, and members of the general public with visual impairment
  • Awareness of lifestyle changes for the visually impaired
  • An understanding of benefits available for the visually impaired e.g. free TV licence
  • To be familiar with etiquette and guiding
  • To be confident in working with people with a visual impairment
  • Be able to offer practical solutions and improve access to services for the visually impaired
  • Interactive session with quizzes, role-plays, and group discussions
